BANGKOK, 4 January 2016: Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office won a 2015 Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International award for its website design and marketing practices.
In its announcement, over the weekend, MCTO said the silver award recognised an innovative re-launch of its MekongTourism.org platform.
In an industry awash with awards, Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office executive director, Jens Thraenhart said: "The HSMAI Adrian Awards have become the world's most renowned and prestigious web marketing competition dedicated to the travel industry."
MCTO recently completed the restructure of its website and launched Mekong Tourism Marketing Strategy and Action Plan 2015 to 2020.
Most of the financing came from the Asian Development Bank to complete the new mobile-ready digital platform.
Functionality includes an e-library for free download of documents, a web-based events calendar with consumer and travel trade happenings in the GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion), a social media hub aggregating tagged user generated content, 10 mobile optimised e-magazines powered by Flipboard to offer a personalized experience based on interests from adventure tourism to river-based tourism, an interactive map showcasing multi-country thematic routes, and a dedicated Mekong Tourism Forum website with mobile app.
MTCO said it is inviting the tourism industry to get engaged and contribute knowledge from articles to documents to the platform for the "common good to drive tourism in the GMS".
The 2015 HSMAI Adrian Award competition attracted 1,300 entries. MekongTourism.org was judged to be exceptional by a select group of experts in the hospitality, travel, tourism and media industries.
A MCTO representative will accept the award at dinner reception and gala, 16 February at the New York Marriott Marquis hotel.
